mule was brutalized
y las espuelas como saetas and the spurs like arrows
se hundieron en los ijares. They sank to the flanks.
El animal embrutecido huye The brutalized animal flees,
arrastrando las tripas dragging the guts
por tierras áridas through arid lands.
Médanos desconcertados Bewildered
dunes
solo cambian de sitio they just change places
para dar paso to make way
al animal herido de muerte, to the mortally wounded animal
por la crueldad intolerante for intolerant cruelty
del hombre de creerse eterno of the man to believe himself eternal.
¡Oh! Dios de los páramos Oh! God of the wastelanda
donde lo insensate where the foolish
domina al ser humano? dominates the human being?
